A “disciplinarian” teenager who thinks all her siblings need some “straightening out.”
A US Navy Surface Warfare Officer navigating her very first warship.
A Digital Marketing Strategist who nails yet another successful marketing campaign.
What do these three have in common?
Me.
Surprised? Don’t be. Grab a cup of your favorite drink; let me take you on a journey that started many years ago…
I grew up the oldest of 4 kids. My mom says I was always telling people what to do. I loved responsibility. My siblings definitely didn’t share the same sentiments, but you know how siblings are, right?
Interestingly, I struggled in school. I’d always get overwhelmed by assignments. The only way I knew to deal with this stress was to take a big task and break it down into smaller, more manageable pieces. I’d also create to-do lists to keep me on track, so I wouldn’t forget anything. In time, I became used to knowing what to expect – next task, next step, next item on the list… I thrived on routines and structured environments.
When I got the opportunity to join the US Navy, I grabbed it. What better way to marry my love for structure, accountability and telling people what to do? The military was the perfect blend of all three. I managed divisions of people; I navigated warships; everyone was answerable to a hierarchy.
Goodbye Navy, Hello Business
Then, the time came for me to say goodbye to the uniform. Ah, life outside the command! I needed to make money. So, I started my first business, leveraging on my organizational skills.
One day, while researching how to market that first business, I stumbled upon an online world I’d known nothing about – Virtual Assistance. I fell in love with it and was ready to pivot. So, I started doing any task clients would let me do. If they said they needed xyz, I`d say “sure, I can do that,” and then jump on the Internet, soaking up every bit of knowledge Google could dispense. I learned a ton!
I studied this Facebook advertising course by Julie Stoian and enrolled in her digital marketing course – The Digital Gangsta. (It was, and still is, the most comprehensive, value-packed digital marketing course on the Internet, and comes highly recommended by me).
Before long, I started making a name for myself, and within 6 months, I was getting tagged in social media posts asking for Facebook ad help. It was awesome. People were finally getting to know me!
With time, I realized that what people desperately needed more than ads was an effective marketing strategy. So, I added that as part of my Facebook ad service. Clients loved it. But something was off.
Time to Pivot
Have you ever felt like you were meant for something more? I mean, feeling like you had a different calling, yet, you were afraid of letting go of what you’d built up thus far, for fear of failing? That’s what happened to me. I felt guilty and nervous. Guilty because I knew I had so much more to offer my clients but was holding back; nervous because I wasn’t sure how this desire to do more would be received. My organizational skills and love of structure had been all but buried under the blanket of Facebook advertising and I remembered thinking to myself, there had to be something that would merge all those skills!
So, I asked myself, what was the best way I could both serve my clients and at the same time, reach my highest potential?
For my clients, it was the reliable support of someone to bounce ideas off and bring their vision to life. For me, it was my desire to help my clients build overall strategies and oversee the execution of their entire business plan.
Finally, I had found my true calling. I had always wanted to partner with entrepreneurs who needed high-level support managing their business, so they could be the CEO they wanted to be. And now, the dots were finally connecting.
My next task was to perfect my brand identity and positioning, which I did with the help of amazing brand strategist, Amber Brooks.
What can I say, world? The stage is set.
